Arts Education Curriculum Renewal Process: K to 5
Exploration in the Arts - year 2
Proposal from Arts Education Teacher Leaders
Arts Education Teacher Leaders will focus on Professional Development in three stages:
- Awareness and Advocacy
Administration & teacher survey of attitudes and perceptions. The level of confidence can be compared to the Fall '06 survey.
An Arts Alive display board was created for schools to advocate for the importance of the Arts, draw attention to research on the Arts and Learning, and to promote school activities.
Resource Box
The Teacher Leaders have identified excellent resources for all four strands in the arts, suitable for K to 5. These resources are offered in response to a survey (Fall '06) in which teachers iedntified the need for more resources as their number one concern when delivereing a quality Arts Education program which includes four strands and three components. The resources have been carefully reviewed and tried in the classroom and come recommended by our teachers.
Artists in the Classroom (Oct 30 & 31st, 2007)
A Visual Artist, a Choir master, an Actor/Director, a Dancer and a Filmmaker will spend the day with elementary students and teachers creating pieces to celebrate "Our Stories". Students will document this work and it will be used to create an on-line book with student responses and new writings. Teachers will build upon this experience and work together to create connected projects in their schools. Teacher Leaders and the Arts Education consultant will provide further exploration workshops in our schools.
