Living Sky School Division & ArtSmart: a Film Project

"Our Story, Our Voice"

with Guest Artsists: Gabriel Yahyahkeekoot & Shane Bellegarde

How do we define our community and our place within the community? “My Voice, My Story” is a multimedia collaborative project bringing together two up and coming First Nations film makers with students from two communities. Students, teachers and community members from Cutknife and Spiritwood will have a chance to explore their stories, learn technical skills and the creative process through 5 day residencies in their communities. Both towns have a significant First Nations populations, local artists and strong Arts Educators in their schools. Working in both the elementary and high schools, Gabriel and Shane will build students capable of mentoring others in the world of film making.

Action Research questions we wish to examine:

1.    How can we best represent authentic student voice through film?

2.    What is the role of the professional artist as mentor and of the student artist as mentor within a community

3.    How can we ensure a lasting impact in the community from the Artist in Residency?
